After a record-setting turnout for last week's season premiere, viewership for Jon & Kate Plus 8 dropped significantly in its second week.

Fueled by ongoing media reports about Jon and Kate Gosselin's marital difficulties, the May 25th premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8 attracted a staggering 9.8 millions viewers, easily beating such highly anticipated network offerings as ABC's Lost season finale.

The two newest episodes of Jon and Kate which aired this past Monday, however, scored only 5.5 million and 6 million viewers respectively. A precipitous drop, but still big numbers by basic cable standards.

Interestingly, neither one of Monday night's new episodes addressed the subject of the Gosselin's crumbling marriage. Instead, both shows were built around material which had already been shot prior to the scandal breaking.
