Flanked by fish while hosting a show underwater? Just another day on the set of Live! with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan.
The morning show hosts welcomed magician David Blaine on Monday morning, who stopped by the show to discuss his ABC special, Real or Magic. The bearded magic man — surrounded by colorful fish while seated in a tank filled to the brim with water — was joined in the tight space by Ripa (in a wetsuit) and later, Strahan — in his actual suit and tie.
Before the duo joined Blaine, the submerged magician consumed a banana and thoughtfully scribbled his thoughts and responses on a notepad — all while underwater! 43-year-old Ripa later sucked in and spewed out tiny fish from her mouth while submerged — at one point impressively blowing out four, possibly five, swimming creatures from her mouth in one exhale.
During a Reddit AMA on Saturday, Blaine described the most memorable part of another big submerged, morning show moment back in 2006. The illusionist, who broke the world record for holding his breath underwater during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, described preparing for his 17-minute stunt: "It felt like I was out of my body in the most amazing way, going beyond physical limits," Blaine, 40, said.
This is not Ripa's first time attempting a stunt alongside the world-famous magician: Mark Consuelos' wife made headlines with Blaine in September 2008 when she was taped giving him a kiss while dangling upside down during his endurance stunt in Central Park.
Blaine's 90-minute special David Blaine: Real or Magic will air on Tuesday, Nov. 19 on ABC.
