Scandal’s biggest fangirl! No one is more excited for Lena Dunham’s guest appearance on the Thursday, March 19 episode of Scandal than Lena Dunham. The Girls star and creator, 28, gushed about her time on the set in a new interview from Late Night With Seth Meyers.
“It is the culmination of, I’m not going to say a life-long dream, ‘cause Scandal’s only been on for two-and-a-half years, but a longtime dream,” she admitted, revealing her family and friends were coming over for a viewing party on #TGIT.
Dunham’s character — the author of a juicy tell-all memoir — wears an obvious wig that has already been mocked online. To steer the blame away from famed Scandal showrunner Shonda Rhimes, the Golden Globe winner admitted, “I want to say that the wig was my idea, and this was not Shonda’s narrative choice.”
Having spent most of her time filming her hit HBO series on the streets of Brooklyn, Dunham noticed the discrepancies between her show’s set and that of the political drama.
“The major difference is everyone on Scandal is just dripping with class,” she revealed. “When I put my costume on, I thought, ‘You know, I think this character might wear diamonds.’ And I asked, ‘Do you think I might be able to have some diamond studs? Maybe a little necklace?’ When you say that on Girls, you’re handed a box from Claire’s Accessories. They went into a safe and they busted out diamonds. I was texting everyone I knew, ‘You know they’ve got frickin’ diamonds on the Scandal set!’”
And the classiest star of them all is, of course, the woman behind Olivia Pope — Kerry Washington.
“Fact about Kerry Washington: She never takes her heels off,” Dunham dished. “If I’m wearing heels in a scene, between [takes], I’m covering my body in Ugg boots. She wears her heels all day like the boss she is — dripping with class and diamonds.”
