Like all diligent actors, the men of Magic Mike did their homework before shooting began. For Matt Bomer, 34, that meant spending some time at the local strip club.
"We all went outside our comfort zones. I went to a club here in L.A. that was called Hollywood Men. It was informative and accessible and helped us out," he told Us Weekly at the film's premiere June 24. "Not only seeing what the routines were like, but the backstage routines, when you came off. That's what we were responsible for."
"It reminded me of being in a football locker room: a bunch of guys endeavoring into a world together, like a guys' thing, not competitive, people were taking the piss, having fun... kind of talking about mundane things while scantily dressed!"
According to Bomer, it's Channing Tatum, 32, who deserves the most credit. (Magic Mike is loosely based on Tatum's experiences as an exotic dancer in Florida.)
"Channing's amazing. He's one of the most authentic, cool people I've ever worked with. And his dancing defies the laws of physics! It's crazy," Bomer told Us. "He was an amazing resource, helped us all out, and provided a voice of support. He made it feel like a team effort even though he was the magic one!"
Magic Mike is in theaters June 29.
