The divas are done. Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey are leaving American Idol after one season each, both judges announced via Twitter this week. The "High School" rapper and the "My All" singer joined the panel in Season 12 along with country superstar Keith Urban. Veteran judge Randy Jackson announced his departure on May 9.
"Thank you American Idol for a life-changing experience," Minaj tweeted May 30. "Wouldn't trade it for the world! Time to focus on the music! Muah!" Us Weekly broke the news that the 30-year-old hip-hop star would be leaving earlier this month. "She's okay with it," a source explained May 15. "She had a great time but was only going to do one season anyway."
Carey, meanwhile, is focused on promoting her latest No. 1 hit "#Beautiful." The singer's reps confirmed via Twitter that she will be hitting the road later this year, more than two weeks after Us revealed she'd be embarking on a world tour.
It's been reported that Urban will also be leaving the Fox show, though he claimed to be in the dark during a May 28 interview with the Associated Press. "I have no official information of anything. I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around," the 45-year-old musician admitted. "I don't know anything more about what's happening next season. It was like this before I signed on . . . so it's not unusual for the Idol folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together."
