Nicki, is that you? After a series of toned-down red carpet appearances, it seems Nicki Minaj has officially left behind the days of neon colors, giant blonde afros, and outlandish costumes for the release of her new “Pills N Potions” music video.
Compared to Minaj’s typically over-the-top music videos for hits like “Starships,” “Super Bass,” and “Beez In The Trap,” “Pills N Potions” is the rapper’s most down-to-earth, simple video to date.
Continuing her streak of wearing her natural hair after sporting a rainbow of colored wigs earlier in her career, Minaj passionately sings the chorus of her soft ballad while rapping the verses.
"Now she's wearing her real hair," celebrity stylist Oscar James told Cosmopolitan of The Other Woman star’s new look. "So I just follow her lead. When she would ask me, 'Well, what do you think I should do?' I usually bring things that are a little more stylized because I feel like that's who she is, but, surprising even to me, she's been leaning toward even more natural. She wants to do less. Just less, less, less."
Minaj still wears her signature pasties in several shots, but the noticeably un-raunchy video focuses on the Grammy nominee’s natural beauty as she wears significantly less makeup and dons plain T-shirts and tank tops in most scenes.
