The Vatican crumbles! L.A. slips into the sea! And all around the globe, everyone speaks totally cheesy dialogue!

This disaster flick, in which cities collapse due to an ecological imbalance, boasts eye-popping effects (don't miss the tidal wave rolling over the White House), but the quieter scenes can be wince-worthy. You can probably guess whether the failed writer (John Cusack) will win back his ex (Amanda Peet) before the world falls apart. (Sony Pictures, $29)
