Three Brooklyn cops (Ethan Hawke, Richard Gere and Don Cheadle) -- strangers to each other -- work the clichéd mean streets of the borough, enforce laws and then break them with equal regularity in this downer crime thriller. Antoine Fuqua's follow-up to Training Day (which got Denzel Washington a best actor Oscar and also starred Hawke) is a bloody and sexually explicit drama that unravels like episodes of The Wire, but without that series' dense plotting and insight into human nature.
