A fearless Michael Fassbender pulls his pants down and keeps his guard up in a provocative, if unsatisfying, NC-17–rated drama. He's Brandon, a suave NYC ad exec consumed by sex addiction. While his bedroom antics -- and his enigmatic personality -- intrigue, the portrait gets cloudier when his fragile mess of a sister (Carey Mulligan) arrives. Why do the two give off an incest vibe? Does he actually want to get better? Frustratingly, too many questions go unexplored.
