Let's do the Time Warp again! A remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show could be heading to a television near you — Fox is in the process of rebooting the 40-year-old musical film as a TV movie, Us Weekly confirmed on Friday, April 10.
The cult classic remake is currently being developed by an all-star producing team that includes one of the film's original producers, Lou Adler, and High School Musical director Kenny Ortega, who will also direct and choreograph the project.
Although the new TV musical trend is to air live, a la The Sound of Music and Peter Pan (plus NBC's next holiday event, The Wiz, and Fox's own live musical experiment, Grease), the Rocky Horror Picture Show project would be a fully produced TV movie instead.
The future of the movie depends on the cast the project is able to wrangle. The original movie, released in 1975, starred Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as stranded lovers Janet and Brad, Tim Curry as the transsexual mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, and Meat Loaf as the ill-fated Eddie. It lives on in midnight movie screenings around the world, theatrically distributed longer than any other movie in history.
This won't be the first time Rocky Horror makes it to Fox's airwaves — Glee aired an episode dedicated to all things Transylvania in the 2010 season 2 episode "The Rocky Horror Glee Show."
