Sandra Bullock Knocks Bradley Cooper Out of No. 1 Box Office Slot

Moviegoers said "I do" to Sandra Bullock's latest romantic comedy The Proposal over the weekend.

The movie, costarring Ryan Reynolds, earned $34.1 million, claiming the No.1 box office spot. (It is the biggest opening ever for Bullock.)

"I think the market was ready for a really fun, broad romantic comedy," Mark Zoradi, president of Disney's motion-picture group, told The Associated Press.

The film managed to knock Bradley Cooper's bachelor-party comedy The Hangover to No. 2, with $26.9 million, after weeks in the top slot.

No. 3: Disney's animated adventure Up, which took in $21.3 million, while the new caveman comedy Year One, with Jack Black and Michael Cera, debuted at No. 4, with $20.2 million. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 earned $11.3 million, rounding out the top five.
