The hits just keep on coming for the Modern Family gang!
Not only did ABC's hit comedy take home its first Golden Globe Sunday for best TV comedy, and now the program has earned another accolade: A GLAAD Media Awards nomination.
The Wednesday night primetime comedy has been recognized by media advocacy group Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for their positive portrayal of LGBT characters on TV. The program features gay couple Cam and Mitchell, played by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Glee, The Big C, Happy Endings and Logo's Exes and Ohs were also highlighted in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. Other nomination categories this year include Outstanding Documentary, Outstanding Reality Program and Outstanding Talk Show Episode.
Us Weekly has also been nominated for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage.
"As media continue to tell new stories about LGBT people and families, a majority of Americans now support full equality of LGBT Americans," GLAAD's Acting President Mike Thompson said in a statement.
"This year’s nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community. Audiences expect to see their own worlds reflected in media, and today more than ever, those include the lives of LGBT people," Thompson continued. "Viewers know that LGBT characters and stories are simply natural extensions of, and glimpses into, their own experiences from across America."
