Modern Family's Gloria (Sofia Vergara) sure means well on the Oct. 23 episode of ABC's hit comedy when she attempts to hire a male nanny to care for her baby Joe -- but it takes longer than expected for her husband Jay (Ed O'Neill) and older son Manny (Rico Rodriguez) to warm up to the idea. In a sneak peek from Wednesday's episode, Jay and Manny are shocked by the over-eager nature of Gloria's lead candidate.
"Who are you?" Jay asks guest star Adam DeVine. When the nanny tells Jay he's the new "manny," Gloria's son is instantly put off. "Am I being replaced?" a confused Manny asks. Amid Jay's protests and stern warning to Gloria that no hiring decision will be made without a family discussion, the nanny attempts to prove his worth.
"I know it's a big step, but if it eases your mind, I'm not just here for baby Joe. I'm here for you, too," the caretaker explains. "My mission is to make all of your lives happier and healthier. My goal is to get you healthier without even realizing it." (His brilliant idea: Making poor Manny run up and down the staircase to look for an item that doesn't really exist.)
Though Gloria is well-intentioned, it sure appears this particular manny won't make the cut. "That's a non-starter," Jay tells Gloria. "Keep looking!"
Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (EST) on ABC.
