Exclusive Audio: Susan Boyle Premieres "Unchained Melody" For Us!

Entertainment October 12, 2011 AT 12:04PM

In case you missed her on Dancing With The Stars last night, Susan Boyle is not leaving Us out of hearing her take on the 1955 Righteous Brothers classic "Unchained Melody." So, the multi-platinum Scottish singer is premiering the studio version of her cover off her upcoming third disc, Someone To Watch Over Me (out November 1), right here, right now.

"Well it was first made famous by the Righteous Brothers during the 60's," Boyle explained. "It's about a broken relationship, but it's a love song. I really like the different arrangement of this version. I'm sure people will see the name and think 'Oh that again!' But this one's totally different and is quite surprising."

Absolutely beautiful Susan! You are superb! So glad you had the courage to perform in front of Simon, & the other two. Their faces alone made the show! You do have a beautiful voice...I'd love to meet you in person because I feel we are somewhat the same. I will never have a voice like your's though! Keep up the great work, & don't wear yourself out! God LOVES you & so do I...!

Sorry, that should have said "found myself wondering" not "founded myself." LOL!

I wish she had sounded this good on Dancing with the Stars. She is one of my favorite singers and has an absolutely beautiful voice. I don't know what happened last Monday, but she did not sound very good...not like she does on this site. This was beautiful. Was she sick or nervous on DWTS? If I had never heard her before, I would have founded myself wondering why so much hype about her. I hope those who had never heard her before will give her another chance, and I hope she returns some day to sing Return on DWTS.

Susan's songs all touch me; but this has always been one of my favorites as it has a special meaning to me. She leaves me with my insides twisted and tears rolling down my face. God bless her more.

Stirrat liked to tell the story about how the song came to him. He was pining over a girl in his high school and was on a summer scholarship at Yaddo’s Triuna Arts of the Theatre School where he met a composer named Alex North, who wrote the music for his lyrics. It took 19 years before "Unchained Melody" was performed in public, but when the song came out in 1955 it went straight to the top and has been there on and off for almost 50 years.

From the first plaintive note, we feel that deep down inside she already knows the answer to the question 'Are you still mine?'. With the slow, pleading repetition of 'I need your love, I need your love' there comes the overwhelming sense of an unfulfilled need deep within her that, ultimately, we all possess in our most secret place. The song says lonely rivers flow to the open arms of the sea and they longingly cry 'Wait for me! Wait for me!' We are now carried along with these emotional images being fully set in our heart, and we, too, embrace the question 'Oh, my love, my darling, Are you still mine?' being sung with the highest sense of urgency in her voice and we feel her exclamation from the top of the musical scale the final plaintive pleading of 'I need your love! I need your love!'. With heartstrings fully stirred Susan brings us to the end with 'God speed your love to me?' and as her last note plays out its minor chord we realize what she has known all along in her life. The answer, as is the case in so many lives, has been no. Just a brilliantly done rendition of this song. God Bless You, Susan Boyle.

I believe that's 1965, not 1955. Great song, well done by Ms. Boyle.
