Cowboys and aliens were neck in neck with little blue creatures this weekend at the box office!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Smurfs and Cowboys and Aliens both earned $36.2 million in North America in their opening weekends. The weekend's highest-earning film won't be determined until Monday morning.

Smurfs, starring Neil Patrick Harris, cost $110 million to make, while Cowboys cost an estimated $163 million to produce. 

Captain America: The First Avenger came in third with $24.9 million, while Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was fourth with $21.9 million. As of Saturday, the final Harry Potter film became the first in the franchise to earn $1 billion worldwide, according to the site.

Crazy Stupid Love -- starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone -- came in fifth at the box office, opening with $19.3 million.
