Today Show Recreates Saturday Night Live Character Costumes For Halloween 2014

Live from New York, it’s the Today show crew! The news team recreated several Saturday Night Live characters from over the years for their big Halloween reveal on the plaza in NYC on Friday, Oct. 31. The themed costumes brought back some familiar SNL faces and Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, who has been on maternity leave since August.

The early risers introduced each of their laugh-out-loud costumes by first sharing an example of each character’s original SNL sketch. See who made the cut below!

Willie Geist and Tamron Hall
Get your cheer on! The Today show duo went as Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri’s Spartan cheerleaders from the ’90s.

Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford
Cue “Bohemian Rhapsody”! The ladies ditched their wine for wigs as they dressed up as Mike Myers and Dana Carvey’s Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar’s characters, respectively.

Al Roker and Lester Holt
Sing it, boys! The coworkers went as The Blues Brothers, originated by Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues) and John Belushi (“Joliet” Jake Blues) in a 1976 SNL sketch. The Ghostbusters alum sent a pre-taped message to everyone at the Today show during the reveal.

Natalie Morales
Superstar! The anchor dressed as Molly Shannon’s memorable character Mary Katherine Gallagher. Like Aykroyd, the actress sent a video message to the group during the live program.

Jenna Bush Hager, Savannah Guthrie, Meredith Vieira
Welcome back, Savannah and Meredith! The trio were excited to show off their tie-dyed tops and mom jeans. The look was inspired by a sketch created by SNL alums and real life BFFs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Matt Lauer
What a difference a year makes! After stealing the show last year as Pam Anderson’s Baywatch character, red swimsuit and all, the Today show co-host covered up in a blue shirt and donned a wig to recreate Julia Sweeney’s dorky fictional character Pat. He’s previously dressed as Paris Hilton, and donned a replica of Jennifer Lopez’s iconic plunging green Versace dress from the 2000 Grammys.

The Today show production team dressed as the Coneheads. The sketch was originated by Aykroyd and Jane Curtin in 1977. “Even the control room got in the SNL spirit! #HalloweenTODAY,” the morning show tweeted.
