Good girls go bad! Roswell lead Shiri Appleby returns to TV this summer with the June 1 premiere of Lifetime's UnREAL, and when the 36-year-old Girls alum reenters primetime, she'll do so with a twist. On the network's newest drama, Appleby plays Rachel, a reality TV producer tasked with running a dating competition show from start to finish.

"Rachel's a good person trapped in this world, and she happens to be really good at manipulating the contestants. She's really good at doing something that makes her hate herself,” Appleby told Us Weekly ahead of the premiere. "She's good, but at times she's pretty evil."

As Appleby explained, she went straight to the source when prepping for her latest role, shadowing a handful of top reality TV executives. "I'd ask them, 'do you feel bad about what you're doing to these people?' And they kind of looked at me like they'd never even thought it or been asked it before. I found that really interesting," the actress said.

Appleby wasn't the only one who went method when prepping for the role. Her costar Constance Zimmer plays the part of a behind-the-scenes exec to a T, said Appleby. "She's so good at it," Appleby told Us of Zimmer. "A lot of times, when you want to act and go there, there's nobody better to do it with because she really commits, she really does it. I couldn't speak highly enough of her."
