Ed Norton, Alanis Morissette Finish NYC Marathon for Charity

Monday – November 02, 2009 – 11:45am

There were some familiar celeb faces in the sea of more than 43,000 racers Sunday at the 2009 ING New York City Marathon -- and they were all running for a good cause.

Actors Ed Norton, Anthony Edwards and singer Alanis Morissette each earmarked funds raised from their trek Sunday to go to African-based charities.

Check out the day's top celeb news photos.

Just before the start of the marathon, Norton, 40, took to his Twitter page in a last ditch effort to drum up fan support for his charity, the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.

"I can't resist...please sponsor $26 for a chance to win an official team jersey," the Fight Club actor Twittered. Norton finished the marathon with a time of 3:48:01. Norton's Team Maasai colleague, Morissette, 35, clocked in at 4:28:45.

Former ER TV doc Edwards, 47, capped off a months-long initiative to raise funds for Shoe4Africa with his 26.2 mile run. Edwards' chosen charity is helping build a public hospital in Kenya.

"It was good but it was so much harder than I imagined," Edwards told reporters at the finish line, where he clocked in at 4:08:20. "The crowd was a big help, like [my] wings."

E! Daily 10 anchor Sal Masekela ran Sunday's marathon -- which snakes through the city's five boroughs of Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island, Queens and Manhattan, where it ends -- for the first time to raise money for his Stoked Mentoring charity, which he founded in 2004.

"One hundred percent of the money I raised will go to Stoked.org," Masekela told Us before the race. The anchor aimed to beat Diddy's 2003 marathon finish, but fell short. After crossing the finish line, Masakela Tweeted: "Well Tweeps, I let you down. Didn't beat @iamdiddy. Hit a wall from hell at 18. Finished around 5 hrs. Hardest thing I've ever done."

How come the NY Marathon site shows no times at any of the checkpoints for Norton? but they do for Morissette? Makes me seriously wonder how he ran the race if he did not make the checkpoints?
