Parents Group Angry Over Gossip Girl Threesome Plot

Thursday – November 05, 2009 – 11:45am

A group of parents don't plan on watching the next episode of Gossip Girl -- and they don't want anyone else to, either!

After on-air promos for Monday's upcoming show hinted at a sexual threesome, the Parents Television Council has asked affiliates of the CW network not to air the episode.

(Next week's threesome involves three main characters in the show, but they are not identified in the promos.)

Airing the teen tryst, which is being teased in an ad as a "3SOME," is "reckless and irresponsible," the nonpartisan education group's president, Tim Winter, said in a statement Wednesday.

"Will you now be complicit in establishing a precedent and expectation that teenagers should engage in behaviors heretofore associated primarily with adult films?" Winter said, adding that it is "expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers."

Although a CW spokesperson told the Associated Press that the median viewer age of the series is 27 years old, Winter said in his statement that "such a claim doesn't even pass the 'laugh test.'"

This isn't the first time the Parents Television Council has fought Gossip Girl over morality issues.

Last year, the group complained about ads promoting its new season that had castmembers including Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick in what they considered to be morally questionable scenarios -- in bed or apparently skinny-dipping. The ads themselves included headlines such as "A Nasty Piece of Work" and "Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate."

You can read the whole story at this link www.jeannecarmen.c o m/pdf/jcglobejfk.pdf Its time the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL got over it

They are in college, if they were in high school, well, I might accept it... That wouldn't be a problem for Skins(if you haven't heard it, it's a british TV show, you should watch it :) ) US will make their version of Skins. MTV, who will be remaking the series, are keen to â??preserve the authenticityâ?? of the show by including drug taking, sex and casting unknown actors to play the characters. "Although when the British version of Skins is aired on BBC America, nudity and bad language is censored out so it will be interesting to see how far they dare go..." said the producer. So... the Parents Television Council, watch out!

To Leanne: Your right, a lot of parents are in denial. I see them all the time when they have to have their 14 year old treated for herpes. The fact remains that society wants you to believe that irresponsible sex has no consequences. That's why America has 1 of the highest rate of teen-age pregnancy and HIV cases than any other industrialized country in the world. You must be a Know-It-All Know-Nothing teenager yourself. Hope you never walk into my doctor's office because you have Herpes. Btw, Herpes knows no bounds, not even a condom!

While I don't agree with everything the PTC stands for, I do agree with this. The fact remains that the show glamorizes something that most teens don't know how to handle. Most adults don't know how to handle it. That's why we have the Maury Povich Show. They glamorize it and don't show the true consequences about whats going on. While most up here are saying 'turn the channel' and don't watch, I hope you keep that point in mind whenever you catch your child doing it, pregnant, or worse, with a disease. I hope someone is there to tell you if you have an issue, get over it!

The "Parents Television Council" is a RELIGIOUS FANATIC group. They go after ANYTHING that they don't see as "wholesome family entertainment." They even go after Disney with their coordinated FCC complaint bombs. Ignore them. They are a group of religious zealots.

i love gossip girl best show ever its a show for older teens and adults not for children so parents must be doing something wrong if they are allowing there children to watch this show thats why they created nickolodeon and so on tell your kids to watch that.dont try to ruin tv for us cause your kids are doing things wrong!!be a parent and watch your kids!!
  • November 06, 2009 - 10:26am Moni Says:

Really? The entire show has themes that are risky for children and the main characters are not good role models or realistic in any way...but now a parents group thinks it's inappropriate? Have they ever watched any of the episodes?
  • November 06, 2009 - 5:54am valerie Says:

Parents need to just have their children not watch the show, i'm sure the show would not even feature a threesome they just make it look like they will in the promo. Most people that watch the show already know about most of the stuff featured on it.
  • November 06, 2009 - 2:46am Leanne Says:

well according to my assessment of american teens, this show is demure. It is a joke to think that american teens are not already dabbling in these extraculicular events. Parents are in denial.
  • November 06, 2009 - 12:56am B Says:

I love how all of you are criticizing the parents instead of the network. Open your eyes and realize that there really are certain things that shouldn't be on TV. I'm by no means a prude, but it's just disgusting. I'm sure every one of those parents on the council won't let their kids watch it. But the reality is not that parents have a management problem, but that television is no longer protecting the rights of people who don't want to pay for such filth to be broadcasted. And Sr, I'm sorry that you identify with "all Europeans" who supposedly think we're ridiculous over here because some of us have morals. Get over it. If we want to play that game, I could just as easily accuse Europeans of bad hygiene and horrible teeth (equally as ridiculous). And sorry, but the stuff portrayed on television and in movies have been directly linked to how people behave, and how our society reflects upon such shows.

i don't understand people. if it's okay to be gay or to be involved in an interracial relationship then what's the difference in those involved in a relationship that involves 3 or more people. the hypocisy of some people is overwhelming.

you can tell your kids what not to watch but it ends there. No one else cares what you think!
  • November 05, 2009 - 9:02pm Allison Says:

This show is doing terribly in the ratings and will probably be cancelled soon. That's why they have to have stupid publicity stunts. Probably won't be as "bad" as the previews will have you think it is!
