Adam Lambert's GMA Act Nixed After "Controversial" AMA Performance

Tuesday – November 24, 2009 – 12:03pm

Adam Lambert is definitely a show-stopper!

Good Morning America canceled Lambert's performance for the show's concert series, his rep confirms to Usmagazine.com. (Lambert had no comment.)

See who the best dressed stars were at the AMAs!

A source tells Us it was due to the American Idol alum's shocking showcase at Sunday night's American Music Awards, where he simulated fellatio with a male dancer, kissed his male keyboardist, grabbed his crotch and flipped off the crowd.

"It was due to his performance and actions on stage," the source says.

In a statement, an ABC spokeswoman said, "Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."

The GMA performance was scheduled for tomorrow. Now, the rep for Lambert, 27, confirms he will instead be on The Early Show on CBS.

Complaints poured in to ABC -- the network that aired the AMAs and GMA -- on Monday about the sexually charged performance of "For Your Entertainment," his first single off his debut album.

According to the Associated Press, ABC said more than 1,500 people complained, what it termed a "moderate" response, and the Parents Television Council also said it had heard from many upset members.

"They're outraged," said Timothy Winters, president of the Parents Television Council. "They just can't believe the nature of the content, the explicit nature, and how much graphic content there was."

Still, Lambert has made no apologies for the performance.

"You know honestly, if I offended some people... it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person," he told Access Hollywood after the show Sunday night. "I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either."

when madonna was making out with brittany spears on stage, there was no backlash or uproar so why the double standard? Adam has an amazing voice and he is a great entertainer and he entertained. i dont usually watch jay leno but i will watch when adam is on as for new years eve, abc is banned at my home and my family and friends homes also.

I am a sixty year old woman and I have never heard vocals like adam lamberts. He is nearly flawless in his music. As far as his ama ordeal, people need to grow up. He is being singled out. I am mature and was not offended in any way. Young children should not have been up at that time anyway, but unless you pointed it out to them, they would not have known anything was off course. I wish him all the luck in the world and can't wait to see his concerts. Give the kid a break.

Be yourself Adam. Madonna made no apologies for her performance or her stage bisexuality, why should you and look at her...and icon. They are having a problem with it because you are a man and that's just not right. No one should control your artistic expression no matter what gender you are.

Kelly Clarkson was the classiest and best performance of the night. I watched the AMA's for her performance. Adam's performance was just what I expected flashy and not very good.

i dont think what adam did was wrong. who are any of us to judge what other people do? why not get a grip on your on life first before you boss around others? only losers waste their time doing that. i cannot believe after the debate the concluded adam the "winner" of this, because he'll get more people buying his new album. that is not true, he hasnt won yet, the point of it all is that he does not want this discrimination. what is wrong? lady gaga does sexual performances too, how come adam cant? just because he's a guy? whats your problem? the media who is flaming adam is effed up idiots.

First of all, ABC knew exactly what was going on. In all the years I have watched the AMA's, after the last award is given that is the end of the show. They knew it was a risky performance and that is why they scheduled it last. Second of all, He is not the first nor the last to push the envelope on a performance. So with that, it leads me to believe that maybe there is a double standard going on. Third of all, When heterosexuals stars kiss, that is never an issue. So when are people, as a whole, going to stop being so closed-minded and ignorant to other beliefs, sexual orientations, ect......

Yikes! I can't believe I saw Lambert's antics on mainstream tv! That should have been on one of the cable or PPV channels. I think that boy has just ruined his career. Time will tell.

Good What lambert did waz sick and disgusting beyond belief but thats not a surprise because he has no talent. if he had any talent he would let his music speak for itself and not do disgusting acts to get attention. Also adam should be fined by the fcc hopefully this talentless dweeb will go away

Let me spell it out P-U-B-L-I-C-I-T-Y. Its pathethic that he did just so that people would talk about him. Come on, now you got the spotlight. Negative or positive publicity, its still publicity. You should be showing your talent and not to stoop down to this level just to be famous. From you interviews you're so arrogant about it. Tsk! tsk! What people do just to be famous.

In radio and television, broadcast delay refers to the practice of intentionally delaying broadcast of live material. A short delay is often used to prevent profanity, bloopers, or other undesirable material from making it to air, including more mundane problems such as technical malfunctions or coughing. In this instance, it is often referred to as a seven-second delay or profanity delay. Hello people...WAKE UP!! This was a calculated risk taken by ABC. They could have edited any of it (even on the East Coast). On the West Coast, we still got "the kiss". That was a tape delay of 3 hrs. PLLLEEASE....if it was truly an issue for the network (absent the complaints from .01% of the viewing audience), then you'd think they would have cut 'the kiss' from the West Coast viewing also.

Adam has the potential to be an entertainment icon. I was disappointed in the AMA performance because I had hoped he would showcase his singing talent to the world. He was given a very prestigious spot in closing the AMA show. It just seems that it would have made better marketing sense on network television for him to have toned down the â??shock factorâ?? antics so as not to have so many in one performance. He is still a relatively new talent and needs to be promoted correctly if he desires to achieve the kind of fame and success that could easily be his. Ultimately though, it will be his decision what he makes of the career opportunities he is afforded now. I sincerely hope he succeeds and becomes an international star.

To all of you who feel "sick" about Adam's performance at the AMA: get over yourselves, please!! If you don't like him, don't watch him. He has plenty of fans. His album is # 4 on iTunes. I suppose some people like him. He is wonderful, no matter what he does. So stop complaining!! GO ADAM! Your CD is just great!

He doesn't perform for all people. He is a performer who is into the gay entertainment scene. This is where he should perform...he's not mainstream.
