Chikezie was the latest sent home on American Idol Wednesday night, leaving nine remaining on the show. (See his baby photo here.)
After the 22-year-old performed the Luther Vandross ballad “If Only for One Night," judge Simon Cowell dissed, “You chose the wrong song last night…it wasn't original."
"I already knew that [Simon Cowell] wasn't going to feel [the song] no matter what," Chikezie told reporters Thursday. "I came in knowing that and I did the song anyway. I just had to do what I felt was right."
"Last night I was glad that none of the other guys had to go home because that's probably the hardest part of the whole thing – saying goodbye to your friends," Chikezie added. "And I didn't have to say goodbye to anyone and no one had to say goodbye to me because they'll be seeing me on tour."
Judge Randy Jackson called his performance "very old school. It wasn't hip and cool."
Keeping Chikezie company in the bottom three last night? Syesha Mercado, who sang Stephanie Mills’ "If I Were Your Woman," and Jason Castro, who performed Sting’s "Fragile."
In other Idol news: Contestant Carly Smithson used last night’s show to address Internet rumors that she is expecting.
"Apparently I'm pregnant — but I'm not!" she told Ryan Seacrest.
Last night's show also featured a performance by Idol alum Kimberley Locke, who was recently chosen as one of Us Weekly’s Weight Winners of the Year.

I like Carly, David (and the other David), but to see Chikezie voted off was a shame...Kristy and Ramiele will be the next to go - if this is truly going to be a talent competition rather than a popularity/beauty contest!!

Who cares! i dont even watch this show sooo overated like totally man i mean i can sing< everyone knows it, everyone tells me. I knew it since i was young but it doesnt mean i deserve to be talked about and become instantly famous just cuz I can sing real good. No No real talent requires knowing how to sing, struggle and yes song writing!

There is nothing special about Chikezie. He sounds like every one else out there today. He has a voice like Ruben Studdard and everyone knows that Clay should have won that round. He has an incredible voice.

Kristy Lee Cook needs to go and NOW..... she is horrible, the only night i have ever heard her show that she may have a little talent was tuesday night....other than that she is not good AT ALL. I dont even know how she has made it this far.
Can this show please be for talent and not popularity...hello people I want to hear someone good on the radio!!!

I am such a fan of chikezie! and Im so bummed he got kicked off, but one thing...his name. What was his mother thinking?I feel like he would get teased as a kid and it just sounds like she made it up. I have looked through my African tribal names book b/c I am about to have a baby and I want a different name but I couldnt find his so I dont know where it comes from... and his name sounds silly. No offense to him, Im a fan!!! Miss You Chikezie

OMG that's so funny, we call her "Ramma Lamma Ding Dong" in my house too! She's such a bore, I would have bet anything that she was going home. Poor Chikezie... he seems like such a nice guys, I really felt bad for him.

Kristy Lee Cook should have been gone weeks ago! I can't believe she is still there.
I liked Chikeze. Never thought he would win but he brought a uniquness to the show that no one else has. He's not trying to be anyone but himself, can't say the same for most of the others.
I thought I was the only one who didn't like Brooke, but seeing the comments today I guess there are a few of us out there. She is so fake and has no talent whatsoever.

Chikezie was my favorite. I loved his version of "I've Just Seen A Face", after he performed that song I had it in my head for days. I was really disappointed last night. That little girl, I think her name is Ramiele, she was my least favorite. Oh well....
