Though Jessica Simpson was at NYC hot spot Pink Elephant with pal Jamie-Lynn Sigler on September 6, she wasn't enjoying the swank club. “She looked like she had been crying,” says a witness. “She was saying, ‘This was the worst week of my life.’”
It had been tough: Her album A Public Affair sold a so-so 101,000 copies in its first week. Her romance with John Mayer fizzled after sources say he was angered by exaggerated reports of their seriousness. (On The View, Simpson denied People’s report that she was “in love.” Mayer himself told Access Hollywood the attention was “uncomfortable.”)
But a source tells Us Weekly that Simpson, 26, after firing her publicist, Rob Shuter, is focusing on the future: “She is taking control of her life.”
Indeed, she talked about letting go of her past to Ellen DeGeneres on her September 11 show: “Nick [Lachey] is an amazing man. I regret nothing.” And careerwise, she’ll attend the L.A. premiere of Employee of the Month on September 19.
Says the source, “She is getting back on track.”
