The scoop The 2004 American Idol champion plays her raspy-voiced self in this TV movie (inspired by her bestseller, Life Is Not a Fairy Tale). The drama documents her rise from raped teen and single mom in North Carolina to a soul diva that even Simon Cowell can’t deny. Classic Idol clips add to the realism. (Lifetime, 9 p.m.)
Why tune in? Though Idol producers have denied some of Barrino’s claims (specifically in regard to her treatment on the show), the singer’s story is truly inspiring. Plus, she delivers a forceful turn in this otherwise choppy flick.
