“Like our amazing cohost Brad Paisley, I grew up in West Virginia, right up the road,” the single Miracles From Heaven star told the audience, filled with country’s biggest artists, while presenting New Artist of the Year to winner Maren Morris.

Garner calls Los Angeles her home, but West Virginia still holds a special place in her heart. The star has been vocal about being proud of her Southern roots in the past. The award-winning actress told Southern Living that she loves going back to her hometown.

“I’m happy to be anywhere in the state,” she told the mag, gushing that one of her most beloved spots is Vandalia Gathering, where “bluegrass plays from under every tree.”

“I feel so fortunate to have grown up in a place where people look out for each other,” she added of her upbringing. “Community is the one thing people crave most, and it’s hard to come by. I grew up with such an excess of it that now wherever I go, the first thing I do is build my group.”
