Smelling fresh, sophisticated and like I just yachted in from the Mediterranean is one of my main summer goals, so when Acqua di Parma (the perfume brand that rumor has it Olivia Culpo gives out to her nearest and dearest at Christmas) invited me to Italy to see where the key ingredient in the brand’s news scent Chinotto di Liguria is grown, I was all in. And besides one of the loveliest parts of the world I’ve ever seen, what I found on the trip is a little citrus fruit that packs a big scent punch. Read on to come along on the journey with Us, learn about the chinotto fruit, discover my latest perfume obsession and find out if I got in touch with my inner Olivia Culpo. You might be surprised!

Among other locations, the chinotto is commonly grown in Liguria, a region of Italy on the Mediterranean that looks like a postcard brought to life. Here I am, living it up in a town called Alassio at the hotel Villa Della Pergola, a stunning location surrounded by a lavish garden that looks out over the sea. I’m pretty sure this is what Olivia Culpo feels like every day of her life, no matter where she is.
Everyone, meet the chinotto, a little fruit that looks a bit like a tangerine and tastes a like a meyer lemon and an orange had a baby — think sour with a touch of sweetness. Shown here in a never-before-seen campaign image, it’s commonly used in Italy to flavor soda and it’s unclear why we haven’t gotten on the bandwagon in the States. It’s delicious.
Now, having gone to see where this featured fruit is grown, the note somehow smells even zestier to me in the fragrance (seen here in an exclusive shot from the brand) — but of course it’s perfectly balanced with the spicier notes of rosemary and cardamom. The result is a unisex scent you can spray all over and smells like a million bucks — but will actually only run you $107 at neimanmarcus.com. It also comes in a spray body lotion ($50, neimanmarcus.com) packed with hydrators like almond, olive and grape seed oil.
