Apparently Sony said “No, No, No.” The company's massive hack has released hundreds of private emails and documents, the most recent of which involves Beyonce’s father and former manager Mathew Knowles.
According to TMZ, Knowles, 63, tried reaching out to the company in December 2013 about the rights to a biopic about Destiny’s Child. The businessman managed the girl group from its inception in the mid-‘90s.
Rumors of a Destiny’s Child movie have been circulating for years, and TMZ reports that Sony executives seemed interested in the idea at the time. Despite the newly leaked information, no film ever came to fruition.
Since the emails were written last year, Lifetime has been rumored to be working on a potential DC film. The network released Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B in November, a biopic of the late singer that was widely criticized, and has set a January premiere for the Angela Bassett-directed Whitney Houston movie titled Whitney.
Under her dad’s guidance, Beyonce formed the best-selling girl group in 1996 with childhood pals Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. Roberson and Luckett left the group in 2000, claiming manager Knowles favored his daughter and Rowland. Michelle Williams later replaced them, and the group released their last album, Destiny Fulfilled, in 2004.
After years of managing Beyonce’s solo career, Knowles and Beyonce parted ways professionally prior to the release of her 2011 album 4. The emotional split was covered in Queen Bey’s 2013 HBO documentary Beyonce: Life Is But a Dream.
