It’s a moment every parent fears: discovering their kid is using drugs. While Lisa Banks was searching for a calculator in her 16-year-old daughter Ashley’s bedroom, she stumbled upon a plastic bag filled with an assortment of suspicious-looking, colorful pills.
The devastated mom snapped a photo of the evidence, which she texted to Ashley, and then demanded that the soon-to-be high school senior return home immediately.

“What are these?” the mother from Bedford, Texas, wrote. “Ashley Carol I will not have drugs in my house. Come home right now. As soon as your dad comes home from California we will discuss your consequences. As for now you’re grounded and you will not be leaving the house, come home this instant.”
But instead of obeying her mom’s orders, Ashley asked Lisa to put the drugs in water.
Moments later, Lisa replied with a picture of four Magic Grow dinosaurs. “Nevermind. You don’t have to come home,” she typed, before adding: “Why in the Earth would you buy these? I thought you were 16 not 7?”
After Ashley posted the hilarious misunderstanding to Twitter on June 3, it quickly racked up 54,000 likes and nearly 41,000 retweets.
“My mom is sort of overprotective but not crazy overprotective,” Ashley tells Us Weekly. “She just cares for me a lot and wants what’s best for me, and that’s why I love her.”
Ashley, who describes herself as “clean-cut,” is captain of her high school volleyball team. “I just think it’s hilarious that my mom would have thought those sponge dinosaurs were drugs,” she tells Us. “I am the complete opposite of someone who would do drugs!”
