Jack White
Jack White (born John Anthony Gillis) is a Grammy Award-winning musician, singer, songwriter and producer best known as a founding member of The White Stripes and for his influential career as a solo artist. White was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he was raised in a large Catholic family as the youngest of 10 children. White attended Cass Technical High School before beginning an apprenticeship in upholstery, a trade he pursued professionally before pivoting to music. During his early years in Detroit’s music scene, he performed in several local bands and developed the stripped-down rock sound that would later bring him international success.
White rose to fame in the late 1990s as one half of The White Stripes alongside Meg White. The duo became one of the defining rock acts of the 2000s with the success of albums such as White Blood Cells (2001) and Elephant (2003). Their breakthrough was fueled by the global popularity of the song “Seven Nation Army,” which became one of the most recognizable rock anthems of its era. Following the group’s split in 2011, White expanded his career through solo projects and collaborations.
In addition to The White Stripes, White was a member of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. As a soloist, he went on to release albums including Blunderbuss (2012), Lazaretto (2014), Boarding House Reach (2018), Fear of the Dawn (2022) and Frozen Charlotte (2026). Throughout his career, he has won six Grammy Awards, including the award for Best Rock Performance, and he has earned acclaim as a producer, songwriter and founder of Third Man Records.
White was married to bandmate Meg White from 1996 to 2000. He later married model and singer Karen Elson in 2005, and they welcomed daughter Scarlett Teresa White in 2006 and son Henry Lee White in 2007 before divorcing in 2013. In 2022, White married musician Olivia Jean and, in 2026, Jean filed for divorce.
