Glamour’s Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive Apologizes to Amy Schumer for Implying the Actress Is Plus-Size in Magazine’s Special Issue

Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive, took to social media on Tuesday, April 5, to apologize to Amy Schumer for implying the comedian is plus-size by including her in the magazine’s special issue.

In a multi-tweet explanation, Leive, 49, began by writing: “We love Amy Schumer, & would never want to offend her. To be clear, @glamourmag special edition never called her plus-size…”

She then went on to defend her magazine’s choice to include Schumer, 34, in their latest issue.

“Her 2015 cover story was included in the edition, aimed at sizes 12 and up, with the coverline ‘Women who Inspire Us’ bc…,” Leive continued, “…her longtime message of body positivity—& talking back to body haters—IS inspiring. (To me, too!)”

Glamour’s “Women Who Inspire Us” package also includes other body-positive celebrities such as Ashley Graham, Adele and Melissa McCarthy.

In follow-up posts, the magazine editor reiterated what is considered plus-size and apologized again to Schumer for suggesting that the Trainwreck actress fell into that definition.

“To be clear, size 6-8 is not plus. (Even size 12—frequent size of ‘plus’ models—is smaller than average American woman!)…,” she concluded. “But women of all sizes can be inspired by one another’s words. So sorry if implication was otherwise, Amy.”

As Us Weekly previously reported, Schumer slammed the fashion mag on Tuesday for including her in their special plus-size package.

“I think there's nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8,” the Comedy Central star wrote alongside an Instagram photo of the magazine.

Not only was Schumer offended to be considered plus-size, she took issue with the publication’s failure to give her a heads-up about being featured in the issue.

“@glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn't feel right to me,” she wrote. "Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size? What are your thoughts? Mine are not cool glamour not glamourous."
