Gwyneth Paltrow: Forget the Juice, Soup Cleansing Is the Best Winter Detox Diet

How does a hot cup of bone broth sound to you?

Gwyneth Paltrow knows people slack off on juicing in the wintertime (because no one needs a cold cup of anything when it's 10 degrees outside), and that's why the lifestyle expert, 42, introduced an inventive way to load up on nutrients while keeping warm: soup cleansing.

Paltrow has voiced her love for an annual detox of sugars, alcohol, caffeine, gluten, and a whole lot more, but this is a less-intense version.

"In the colder months, when our bodies crave warmth and comfort, juice at every meal isn't very appealing," she writes on her website Goop. "And so soup — the ultimate comfort food — makes a whole lot of sense as a wintertime alternative."

Vegetable-based soup helps distribute nutrients that support the body's detoxification systems and "anti-microbials to kill the 'bad' guys in the gut, that are a common source of toxicity," says Dr. Frank Lipman.

Paltrow names Soupure, a Los Angeles-based soup delivery service, to try out a one-day, three-day, or five-day cleanse with healthy soups to feast on at the ready. But if you'd rather DIY, the mom of two also provides recipes for soup detoxes like Thai curry soup, leek and celery root soup, and roasted clean carrot soup.
