Sandra Lee has to go under the knife once again. The Food Network star took to her Facebook page on Monday, Aug. 10, to announce she has to have surgery following complications stemming from her double mastectomy.
The update comes after the chef was hospitalized following a “setback” due to the mastectomy earlier this month.
“Andrew and I have decided that tomorrow I will go back into surgery. I did my very best to avoid this (when I tell you I did everything, I mean everything — modern, Eastern and holistic) but infection is an incredible monster,” she shared on Facebook. “I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey.”
She continued: “Right now the ball is in my court and it's time for a mean backhand — and I am taking that shot (And just so you know I DO, in fact, have one mean backhand on the tennis court! It's actually stronger than my forehand — solid, swift and accurate). So my plan for tomorrow is game, set, match! And to be absolutely clear what I am going through is nothing compared to what many of my sisters experience — to them and their families and support systems I say: Stay strong, focus on the light and I send you my love. When I am done I WILL be lending you my backhand.”
According to the Associated Press, Lee suffered a “buildup of fluids” following her first surgery and needed to be monitored for a couple of days in the hospital.
The Semi-Homemade Cooking star announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer on Good Morning America this past May. “I didn’t even cry,” she said at the time. “I was stunned.”
