Catelynn Lowell is standing up for her 16-year-old daughter, Carly, after online trolls allegedly stole the teen’s prom photos and body-shamed her.
“So I saw recently that a certain page — pages — are stealing Carly’s pictures from prom,” Lowell, 34, said in a TikTok video on Wednesday, May 6. “First of all, I don’t agree with it. I think it’s ridiculous.”
The Teen Mom star continued, “Second of all, why do grown adults feel the need to comment on children’s and minor’s bodies? Um, first of all, saying that she looks like a skeleton, or she needs to eat cheeseburgers, or she’s too skinny.”
Lowell added that her second eldest child, daughter Novalee, 11, “gets the same crap.”
“It’s disgusting, aren’t we grown here? Do you guys not realize that people can be skinny shamed? It’s not just, like, a fat thing. Skinny people can be shamed too, and it’s horrible. Knock it off. Grow up,” she said.
Lowell noted that her kids have “very fast metabolisms,” and their father, Tyler Baltierra, is also “skinny.”
“Keep your opinions to yourself. When it comes about children, it’s disgusting, and it needs to stop,” she concluded. “And if anybody comes on my stuff, whether it’s on my TikTok or it’s on our Facebook fan page, automatic block, because to talk about children and minors’ bodies is disgusting. So I’ll just leave it at that and stop.”
Lowell and Baltierra, 34, appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, which documented Carly’s birth in May 2009. The then-teen couple ultimately placed Carly for adoption. They later welcomed Novalee in January 2015, followed by daughters Vaeda in February 2019 and Rya in August 2021.
Though Carly’s adoption was initially open — meaning they could receive photos and see their daughter in person once a year — Carly’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Theresa, decided to close the adoption in 2023.
Lowell claimed to Us Weekly in January 2025 that she hadn’t seen Carly in two years.
“It’s very hard,” Lowell said at the time. “At the end of the day, I really just want whatever she wants and whatever that looks like for Carly, that’s all that I want.”
Baltierra later shared an update on his and Lowell’s relationship with Carly in April.
“As far as our relationship goes, we don’t really have one,” he explained. “I set up an email for her that me and Cate will write to and that’s pretty much the only way we’re maintaining any kind of communication. We figured if we set up an email for her, and write to it, and one day if she ever wants it, we can give her the login and she can kind of just go through the email herself. We let her know that she’s not forgotten about.”
