Todd Chrisley is praising his wife, Julie Chrisley, for stepping up to help parent his oldest children.
“I say this all the time. Julie is the daughter that my mother never had,” Todd, 57, shared on the Wednesday, October 28, episode of the “Chrisley Confessions” podcast. “My mother worships Julie. Julie stepped in with my two oldest children, and she became an instant mother. It was something that I’d never seen.”
Todd shares daughter Lindsie, 37, and son Kyle, 35, with ex-wife Teresa Terry.
After Todd married Julie, 53, in 1996, the pair welcomed Chase, 30, Savannah, 29, and Grayson, 20. (The couple also legally adopted their biological granddaughter, Chloe Chrisley.)
“[Julie] was getting up, she was making breakfast, she was doing laundry, she was keeping the house clean,” Todd shared about his wife’s involvement in Lindsie and Kyle’s life growing up. “She was dropping them off to school in the morning, picking them up in the afternoon.”
Although Todd does not have a relationship with his ex today, Julie recalled being in contact with Teresa about the kids.
“We’ve been together for 32 years, and we’ve been married for 30,” she said about her relationship with Todd. “There were times, though, that I would speak to the ex-wife because of the children or whatever to coordinate.”
Todd went on to claim his ex-wife “wasn’t present, and I think that I had so much resentment towards that.”
In a 2014 interview with the Daily Mail, Terry shared her perspective on why her marriage to her high school sweetheart fell apart.
“We were both headstrong,” she claimed. “He likes to control his environment. That is one part of the show that is no fiction and it drove me crazy. The house always had to be perfect. That drove me nuts. I had two small kids and there could be no toys out. Everything had to be picture perfect like a showroom.”
In May, Todd celebrated 30 years of marriage by sharing a special message to Julie on their “Chrisley Confessions” podcast.
“33,000 years we have been married folks,” he said before calling their wedding day the “greatest day” of his life. “I am truly blessed to have had you for 30 years. I love you with all of my heart, and I hope that these next 30 that you will realize how lucky you have been.”
Julie replied, “Trust me, I do.”
