“He’s very musical,” the singer, 37, told Us Weekly exclusively at the 18th annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball earlier this week. “He sings in tune. He loves playing piano.”

The “Pocketful of Sunshine” singer’s passion may be influencing her son, but the little one has affected his mom’s career as well. “I’ve been touring my whole life and singing [and] music’s all very up there in the clouds,” the songwriter told Us. “I feel like having a baby really grounded me. I feel, like, a very active kind of yoga as I care for him, a lot of very humbling things.”

Bedingfield added: “That’s just been life-changing. As I’ve gone into the studio to make an album, I feel like I’m just so in the flow. It’s a different flow. I feel much more connected.”

She and her husband, Matt Robinson, announced their son’s birth with a hilarious Instagram post in January 2018. “Omg! Guess what just happened at the very end of this year! The happiest new Year ever!” Bedingfield captioned a photo from her hospital bed with a coffee cup labeled “Mum.”

The reveal came two months after she told fans her first child was on the way. “Matt and I are thrilled to share with you all that we are bringing a new little life into the world!” the Grammy nominee wrote at the time. “We can’t wait to embark on this amazing journey together.”

As far as their plans for baby No. 2, she told Us, “I want to release my album first. It’s been so long since I’ve released anything. The Hills is coming out again as a reboot, and I’m involved in that, because my song is in [it]. I can’t say much about it, but some cool stuff is coming up with that, and then I’m going to be releasing new music.”

The Chrysalis Butterfly Ball honors remarkable men and women within the film, television, fashion and music industries who strive to achieve creative excellence, raising over $16.5 million since 2002 to help individuals out of poverty and homelessness. This year, over 700 guests gathered for an evening benefitting Chrysalis’ efforts.
