Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans had a miscarriage prior to becoming pregnant with her first child with boyfriend David Eason, she reveals to Us Weekly exclusively.
During a doctor’s visit with her endocrinologist back in April, the 24-year-old reality star was alerted that her blood tests indicated that she was pregnant.
“I was really, really confused because I was seeing an endocrinologist for my health issues I’ve been having, and she told me that she did blood tests on me to check everything out. She wasn’t even trying to check for pregnancy,” Evans tells Us.
Days after the appointment, the MTV personality — who had been seeking treatment for various ailments including swollen lymph nodes, as seen on the last season of TM2 — was scheduled to attend a reunion taping for the docuseries in Los Angeles. Making the most of her trip to the West Coast, she penciled in a time to see The Doctors’ Dr. Peter Weiss to get a second opinion about her potential pregnancy.
“I had an appointment with him while I was in L.A. for the reunion, and I said, ‘Look, my endocrinologist says I’m pregnant, now I’m bleeding, I need to know what’s up,’” the North Carolina resident recalls. “And he was like, ‘Well, we did an ultrasound, we did a urine sample and we did a blood test. Everything is coming back that you’re not pregnant.’”
But when she got back home, Evans discovered that she had indeed been pregnant: “So I told my endocrinologist [about the negative results], and when I went home, my endocrinologist said, ‘Well, it looks like you had a miscarriage.’ So actually instead of it being my period I [thought I] had, I guess [it was] a miscarriage the month before I even got pregnant. And that’s when everyone thought I was pregnant at first.”
While Evans revealed to Us that she and Eason had discussed settling down together in the future, the couple were not planning on expanding their family anytime soon. Evans is also mom to Kaiser, 2, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Nathan Griffin, and Jace, 7, whom she welcomed with ex Andrew Lewis in 2009. In 2010, she forfeited custodial rights of her firstborn son to her mother, Barbara Evans, who still looks after the young boy. (Mother and daughter have been battling over custody of Jace for years, as documented on Teen Mom 2.) Eason is the dad of Maryssa, his daughter from a previous relationship.
“We talked about it, and he was like, ‘Do you want to have any more kids in the future?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, but after we get married, after we have the house, and after we’re completely settled and everything calms down and we’re in the new house,’” the 16 and Pregnant alum explains to Us. “I said, ‘Then it would be fine.’”
Evans told Us that she was off birth control because of her endocrinologist’s orders and said she got pregnant while using protection, but one condom was “cheap” and burst.
As previously reported, Evans took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 24, to let fans know that she is expecting her daughter — who she has already named Ensley Jolie — on January 28, 2017. Though she didn’t plan on becoming a third-time mom, Evans is thrilled about finally having a girl.
“I’ve got my girl now, and I’m very ecstatic, very happy to be actually decorating stuff and all girls stuff, and all my friends are like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re going to be so spoiled!’” she raves. “Because all my friends, they just have little boys, so it’s like everyone is just so super excited for me!”
