Jennifer Garner knows her body. The 46-year-old recalled the morning she took a pregnancy test in 2005 and saw two faint lines. Not knowing if it was a true positive, the actress, who was married to Ben Affleck at the time, asked her doctor to do a test in his office.
“He gave me one and said, ‘I don’t know, you’re not pregnant. It’s negative,’” Garner revealed during a Thursday, May 10, appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I am. I’m telling you, I am.’”
Garner’s daughter Violet is now 12. “I don’t use that doctor anymore,” quipped the Alias alum. “But I have her so I won.”
The mom of Violet, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6, revealed that she showed quickly with all three children. “One of the things for me being pregnant is . . . you can tell by day two,” Garner said. She then joked that her behind grew just as much as her belly. “I carried a baby in the back as much as I did in the front,” she quipped. “I’d catch myself in the mirror and be like, ‘Ah! What is that? So big, oh my god, there’s another thing growing back there!’”
Though Garner was nauseous with each pregnancy, with “Sera” it got worse as the day went on. “I had to listen to Yo-Yo Ma at night,” she said, noting that somehow the cellist got her through it. “I would lie there in the bed, just waiting and hoping I would fall asleep. It’s crazy, you do crazy things.”
With Samuel, Garner did whatever it took not to puke. “Forget it, it was like Happy Meals,” she quipped. “It’s just gross. It’s just gross what you do.”
Garner and Affleck, 45, announced they were splitting in June 2015, and she filed for divorce in April 2017 after nearly 12 years of marriage. The exes are committed to coparenting peacefully.
