Jerry O’Connell Was Inspired by Meghan Markle, Wants His Twin Daughters to Marry Royals (Exclusive)

When Jerry O’Connell watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement interview in November, he took mental notes for his 9-year-old twin daughters Dolly and Charlie.

“They can date anyone they want when they grow up, but I’m using this Meghan Markle thing as a point of reference for them,” the actor, 43, exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday, December 19. “‘Guys this is what I’m talking about. Meghan and a prince. This is what I expect.’ That’s the bar now. I would be cool with them marrying a royal. Anytime Meghan Markle is on the news, I point to them and go, ‘Girls there she is. That’s a princess. That’s what I’m talking about.’ I’m trying to motivate them.”

Just like Markle, O’Connell’s kids are growing up in Los Angeles — and that gives him hope. “That girl is from L.A. My kids are from L.A.,” the Stand By Me alum joked. “Let’s do this!” On his shortlist of potential husband’s: Prince William’s son, George, 4.

Supermodel Rebecca Romijn is down with her husband’s plan as she’s just as royal obsessed as him. “We’re actually super stoked for that wedding. May 19th!” he told Us. “My wife and I are going to throw a party. I’m dressing up. I’ll be serving Pimms or whatever they drink over there. Tea and Pimms.”

But grooming his kids to marry a royal isn’t O’Connell’s only project. He will host the AKC National Championship Dog Show presented by Royal Canin. Ironically, he’s more of a cat guy. “I love my cats. I sleep with them,” he told Us. “My wife lets our dogs in the bed well so I get about 8 inches to sleep on. I could sleep on a balance beam. If you get up to go to the bathroom, that’s it. They take your space. You’re sleeping in the dog bed or get better get out the sleeping bag!”
