Back in May 2016, when John Legend was defending his wife, Chrissy Teigen, from the parenting police, the 39-year-old tweeted: “Funny there’s no dad-shaming.” Turns out he was wrong.
When Legend shared picture of him carrying his 22-month-old daughter, Luna, on Tuesday, February 24, he got a taste of what Teigen, 32, deals with regularly. (Last month the supermodel was criticized for going down a slide with Luna on her lap!)
“So tired of seeing them carrying her,” wrote one person on Legend’s Instagram post. “She needs no legs then.”
Legend let the comment roll off his back. “Yeah, it was hilarious,” the 10-time Grammy winner told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, February 28. “People, you know, I think people kind of, they see one photo and they want to make judgments about how people live their life and I think the best advice for all of us is, let parents be parents and don’t criticize on what you see on social media.”
Though Legend didn’t reply to the troll, Teigen did — and of course she had the perfect response. “Are you so tired of it? Does it make you so sad and upset 🙁 we are so sorry to make you, queen holland messier of the universe sad and upset,” she wrote. “What can we do for you to make it better, sweet angel.”
Teigen will soon be too busy to take on mom (and dad!) shamers. She and Legend are expecting their second child, a baby boy, in June. The couple has yet to pick a moniker for No. 2.
As the Cravings author told Ellen DeGeneres on February 19: “Boy names are really tough and I don’t think eh will even have a middle name because we can’t even come up with a first name!”
