Family foodies! Empire star Jussie Smollett and his younger brother Jake are really close — especially in the kitchen! “I love cooking with my baby brother,” Jussie, 32, tells Us. In 2014, Jussie and Jake, 26, whipped up dishes on their YouTube video Restaurant Ready. Now, the brothers are sharing their recipe for Asian lobster tacos with Us Weekly. “[This starter] tastes amazing, but is still light,” Jussie says. Find out how the pair puts an Asian twist on a Mexican classic!
Asian Lobster Tacos
1 clove garlic, crushed, plus 2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 tsp sesame oil
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 cup thinly sliced green cabbage
1 cup thinly sliced red cabbage
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 package store-bought wonton wraps
2 tbsp butter
2 green onions, chopped
3 lobster tails, meat removed from wheel and chopped
1. In a medium bowl, combine crushed garlic, sesame oil, lemon juice, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and ginger. Stir in cabbages. Set aside.
2. In a small pan over medium heat, heat vegetable oil. Fold 10 to 12 wonton wraps in half into the shape of hard taco shells. One at a time, fry wraps until crunchy, about 30 seconds per side. Set aside.
3. In a medium pan over medium heat, sauté butter and chopped garlic. Add green onions, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and lobster. Sauté until meat is cooked through, 2 to 3 minutes.
4. Place lobster in shells. Top with cabbage slaw and drizzle with Sriracha to taste. Serves 10 to 12.
