Princess Kate Middleton cannot wait for her 13-year-old son Prince George’s boarding school break.
“She said she’s looking forward to George coming home [and that] she’s missed him,” local patron Denise Ashton told Hello! after meeting Kate, 44, during the princess’ Thursday, October 22, appearance at East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices in Ipswich, England. “They may be going somewhere [during the break].”
Kate and her husband, Prince William, share George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8. While Charlotte and Louis attend a day school near the family’s London residence, George recently matriculated at Eton College. (William, 44, and his brother, Prince Harry, are among Eton’s star-studded graduates.)
During her Thursday engagement, a local student also told Kate that he was preparing for his own half-term break.
“My children break up tomorrow, and I can’t wait to have them all home,” the Princess of Wales replied.
Kate and William dropped George off for his first day on September 8, where they also greeted headmaster Simon Henderson and provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge.
Years before enrolling George in his father’s alma mater, a source told Us that the duke and duchess were considering sending their firstborn to boarding school.
“Kate and William are open to sending George to boarding school in the future and have already checked out a few, but they feel 8 is a little young and want to wait until he’s slightly older,” an insider exclusively told Us in 2021. “George going to school is a decision the Cambridges will make as a family. They’d never force George to go unless he wants to and they feel it’s right.”

At the time, the source noted that George thought the concept of boarding school sounded “super fun.”
Before deciding on Eton, William hinted this summer that the teenage prince had started preparing for boarding school.
“Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, so Charlotte, Louis, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please,” William gave his youngest children a shout-out during his May appearance on the Heart Breakfast show. “Make sure you’re not fighting over who’s listening to what this morning.”
At the time, William also praised Kate’s ongoing cancer recovery. (Kate was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024, soon undergoing chemotherapy treatment. She is now in remission.)
“She’s an amazing mum, an amazing wife and, literally, our family couldn’t cope without her,” he gushed. “She’s been absolutely stunning, brilliant.”
