Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard know better than to try and reason with a toddler in the midst of a meltdown. “One thing I’ve learned as a mom is it’s really important to monitor when they are able to receive your information,” the Bad Moms actress told Us Weekly on Tuesday, May 3, at the Bump Moms: Movers + Makers luncheon in L.A. “We wait until they calm down and then we talk to them.”
Bell and the Parenthood alum are parents of daughters Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 16 months — and both are developing distinct personalities. “It seems like our firstborn is more like me, and our second one is a little more like him. But that’s because the second one is a little slugger,” the Frozen star, 35, joked.
“She’s like, ‘When in doubt, knock them out!’ We’re working on that,” Bell told Us. “That may or may not have been my husband’s motto in his twenties, I don’t know!”

Though the Veronica Mars star admitted she gives Lincoln and Delta the occasional time-out, it’s not because they’re fighting with each other. “They love each other,” she told Us. “We have very strict rules in our family about how we treat people with respect, especially our family members. … We are going to be with each other in the long haul, so it’s important to always be respectful and treat your sister the way you want to be treated.”
Bell and Shepard, who started dating in 2007, got engaged in 2010. But the couple waited until 2013 — when California legalized same-sex marriage — to say “I do.” In March 2013, they welcomed their first daughter, Lincoln. Delta was born in December 2014.
