Laughter really is the best medicine. One day after Us Weekly broke the news of Mamie Gummer's split from husband Benjamin Walker, the Side Effects actress sought comfort — and humor — in mom Meryl Streep. On Sunday, March 31, the mother-daughter duo were spotted spending some quality time together and sharing a few laughs in Vancouver, Canada.
Gummer, 29, looked happy and relaxed in baggy gray pants, black Toms shoes, a white cardigan, and a pink scarf. Her famous mom, 63, kept casual in black pants and a black sweater over a printed blouse. Both smiled widely as they left a hotel with their dog.
The outing came just hours after news of Gummer's breakup went public. "It's very amicable," the actress' rep told Us of the split, which another source described as "very new."
Gummer and her husband — who just wrapped his sexy starring role in a Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, opposite Scarlett Johansson — met in 2008 while performing in a production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. They announced their engagement to Us a little more than a year later and wed in July 2011 at her family's Connecticut estate.
"He did it on one knee!" the Emily Owens, MD star gushed to Us of Walker's proposal. "My mom loves him!"
Gummer is Streep's second-eldest child with sculptor Don Gummer. The Oscar-winning actress is also mom to musician Henry Gummer, 33, Smash actress Grace Gummer, 26, and student Louisa Gummer, 21.
