Interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent wouldn’t change anything about their 2-year-old daughter Poppy. Except maybe her favorite color.

“We never brought pink into her life initially because we just don’t gravitate towards pink and now we can’t get away from it,” Brent, 33, told Us Weekly at the Covenant House California “An Evening for Dreams” fundraiser in L.A. on Wednesday, January 17. “She’s a girlie-girl for sure.”

With that it mind, it should come as no surprise that the toddler’s bedroom is decorated in her favorite hue. “There are a million pink plastic things that go in baskets,” Berkus, 46, told Us. “Right now, if it’s pink or plastic she’s really on board. So it’s our worst nightmare, actually!”

Though Poppy is still a toddler, her dads describe her as the “strongest person” in their home. “She’s definitely got an opinion and she’s blossoming into a young woman,” says Brent. “She carries herself like a 5 year old!” And Berkus agrees: “She tells us she doesn’t like our clothes. She tells us she doesn’t like our hair.”

The couple added that they haven’t been sleeping much since Poppy transitioned from her crib to a big girl bed a few nights ago. Both have been up checking the baby monitor to make sure she hasn’t left her room, but according to Berkus, “So far, so good.”

Season 2 of Nate & Jeremiah By Design returns to TLC on April 7. The show follows Berkus and Brent as they help make DIY disasters into dream homes as they parent Poppy.

“We love doing our job together. We get to leave the world a little bit more beautiful than it was when we started,” Brent gushed to Us. “And that was the promise that we made to one another when we fell in love, was to do that for the rest of our lives.”

Burkes and Brent tied the knot at the New York Public Library in Manhattan in May 2014. Us Weekly exclusively broke the news in 2013 that they got engaged after dating for nearly nine months.

Nate & Jeremiah By Design premieres on Saturday, April 7 at 9/8c on TLC.
