When Us Weekly asked Nicole Richie to share her holiday traditions, the Great News actress didn’t miss a beat.
“I can describe my Christmas in a couple of words,” the 36-year-old told Us Weekly at the Jacques Penne JC Penny Pop-up in NYC on December 7. “Mariah Carey all day, Nicole’s famous apple cider, wine and lots of lights.” (For the record, Nicole’s “famous” cider is a mix of apples, oranges, nutmeg, brown sugar and a secret ingredient that she refused to name!)

The mom of Harlow, 9, and Sparrow, 8, with husband Joel Madden, will spend December 25 at her L.A. home with her entire family. That means brother-in-law Benji Madden and his wife Cameron Diaz will be there to watch her kids unwrap their presents. “My daughter is very into makeup and my son wants a drone that he will probably not be getting,” Richie told Us. “I know the drone is popular, but it won’t be popular in my house.”
Sparrow will be disappointed with Santa, not his parents. He is still believes in St. Nick. “The magic of Santa is still very much alive,” Richie explained. “Christmas was such a big deal for me when I was growing up, so I make it a big deal for them. I really go all out.”
The House of Harlow designer and Good Charlotte rocker, 38, know not to expect much in the way of gifts from Harlow and Sparrow. “They aren’t too concerned concerned about getting things for us yet, it’s really just about what they’re getting,” Richie told Us. “Last year I was called out and shamed because Santa got them better presents then I did. This year Santa will be getting them raw vegetables and I’ll get them what they’ve been asking for!”
