The rest of the world may meet the royal baby before his own grandfather does! One day after his son Prince William welcomed his first child, a baby boy, with wife Kate Middleton, Prince Charles is attending an engagement in Yorkshire with wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall on Tuesday, July 23.
A source tells Us Weekly that the Prince of Wales, 64, will be visiting Yorkshire on Tuesday and Wales on Wednesday. But that doesn't mean he won't be celebrating!
Prince Charles said he celebrated the birth with a glass of champagne. "I'm thrilled and very excited," he said Tuesday. Duchess Camilla, 66, added, "I think the mother, son, father . . . are all doing well. I think it's a wonderfully uplifting moment for the country." (Charles began his previously scheduled engagement in York on Monday as his daughter-in-law delivered the young prince; in a series of hilarious pics, the first in line to the throne was photographed touring a meat packing plant.)
The new parents, both 31, welcomed their baby boy, whose name has not yet been revealed, on July 22 at at 4:24 p.m. Shortly after the birth, Prince Charles said in a statement: "Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."
Prince William and Middleton are expected to leave St. Mary's Hospital after 6 p.m. London time on Tuesday. "We would like to thank the staff at the Lindo Wing and the whole hospital for the tremendous care the three of us have received," the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said in a statement Tuesday. "We know it has been a very busy period for the hospital and we would like to thank everyone — staff, patients and visitors — for their understanding during this time."
