Selena Gomez’s friendship with Taylor Swift gets the seal of approval from her mom, Mandy Teefey. The 13 Reasons Why producer gushed over their close-knit relationship in a Thursday, May 24, interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“What I love about that friendship is it’s so solid, and with Taylor, I feel like they can tell each other anything, and it will be an honest, in-your-best-interest kind of relationship,” Teefey said of the two. “It’s not about anything else, and it’s one you don’t just find out here.”
As for what Teefey thinks of the 28-year-old “Delicate” singer as a person? “With Taylor, what you see is what you get. She is who she is,” she said, noting, “she is so grounded and works so hard and she’s always been there for Selena.”
Swift and Gomez — who both rose to fame at an early age — have remained close friends despite the hustle and bustle of fame. “They’ve come up together,” Teefey added. “And they’ve never parted. To me that’s a true friendship.”
The gal pals most recently shared their adoration for each other when Gomez took the stage as a surprise guest during Swift’s Reputation tour stop at the Rose Bowl Stadium on May 19. The two looked adorable as they danced together and performed Gomez’s hit song “Hands to Myself.”
Gomez also took the opportunity to show her love for Swift as she addressed the audience. “I want to say thank you to my best friend of about 12 years, almost 13. And the reason why she has been one of my best friends is because this person has never, ever judged a single decision I’ve made,” she said. “She’s always met me where I’ve been. She’s encouraged me when I’ve had nothing to be encouraged about. And I don’t know if I would be as strong as I am if I didn’t have you and your family because you changed my life.”
She added: “But honestly thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting someone that I know that is the most beautiful, strong, independent woman I’ve ever met. So thank you for supporting my best friend.”
