Feeling good! Sophie B. Hawkins is pregnant with her second child at age 50, and is more than excited (and ready!) to start this next chapter of her life. The "As I Lay Me Down" singer, already mom to son Dashiell, explained to Us Weekly why now was the perfect time to give him a little sister.

"Dashiell is increasingly independent of me, and yet he's still very engaged in his childhood," she tells Us exclusively. "Dashiell and I have had the magical twosome for six adventurous years, that intense focus of an only child and single mother, and we're ready to invite a new and unknown dynamic into our lives."

Hawkins gave birth to Dashiell in November 2008. Always wanting to be a mother, she admits she froze 15 embryos when she was 31.

"I'm in great health and Dashiell was a healthy pregnancy, but the risks emotionally seemed huge," she recalled to Us. "Losing the closeness with Dash, our free and adventurous life style, and the risk that he would feel betrayed by my having another child. We've come through serious trauma with depth, healing and humor and that has made our bond even stronger. I grieved a lot when I finally decided to put the embryo inside of me."

This time around, Hawkins is yet again not "worried about the risks physically" due to her age — and she has plenty of reasons why.

"Being 50 is actually an amazing age to have a second child because I am more wise, calm, humorous, appreciative, simple and clear," Hawkins explained. "I'm not running around looking for love and validation. I live each day full of gratitude, and that's good for my children."

"I've built a community and I keep refining it. Fifty is about friendship," she added, noting that she's fine with being single. "If I meet someone I want to be with, that person is going to be awesome and so good for my children and I, it will be a fun-filled adventure with another person fifty or over."
