Lesson learned! Duchess Meghan’s estranged half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., reacted to the arrival of her and Prince Harry’s royal baby.
“Hopefully this baby will help mend the family rift. We’d all love to meet the baby and become a part of his life — especially my dad,” he told The Sun. “I’m hoping that becoming a mother will open up her eyes and shed light on what family means. Maybe she will see the importance of family now — and open up to my dad and let him be part of the baby’s life.”
Thomas added: “She should let the family come over and meet the new baby. … Hopefully she won’t be unfair and withhold him from everybody. I hope she’ll reach out and make the baby a part of everybody’s life.”
The Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., congratulated her and the duke, 34, after their son arrived on Monday, May 6.
“I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well,” he said in a statement to The Mirror. “I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor. God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and God save the Queen.”
The former actress, 37, has been estranged from her family, except for her mom, Doria Ragland, for years. Thomas Sr., 74, did not attend Meghan and Harry’s wedding at Windsor Castle in May 2018, and he and his daughter Samantha Markle have bashed the royal family in various interviews.
A source told Us Weekly exclusively in July 2018 that the Suits alum was “upset” over her relationship with her father. “She would like to speak to him, but there is no trust there anymore,” the insider told Us. “And it doesn’t seem like it could ever be rebuilt. The damage is done.”
