90 Day Fiancé star Jenny Slatten has been diagnosed with ALS after experiencing symptoms for more than a year.

“With a heavy heart, we wanted to share news with all of you guys. There was a rumor that I had a stroke, but it turned out to be ALS,” Jenny, 68, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, May 19. “At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us. We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly. But after trying for some time, we feel like it’s time to reach out.”

The TLC reality star thanked fans for their love and support. Now, she’s asking for viewers to offer up guidance that could be helpful with her diagnosis.

“Right now, we are open to any kind of help,” she explained. “Treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes or anything that could help treat this disease or slow down its progression.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease leads to muscle weakness and other symptoms that get worse over time.

There is no cure for the disease, but research into new therapies is ongoing.

“I love you, mom. I’m so proud of you. It’s been really hard to keep in and not say anything,” Jenny’s daughter, Christina Marie Cuevas, wrote in the comments section. “I’ve never been so sad, but I will never let the sadness take over because we have to have hope. I’ll be with you every step of the way. Mom and Sumit, I love you both so very much.”

In a separate interview with People, Jenny and her husband, Sumit Singh, shared insight into how they received the ALS diagnosis.

Although Jenny started experiencing symptoms at the end of 2024, it wasn’t until she traveled to New York City for a 90 Day Fiancé holiday party, where her speech was notably slower.

When some fans expressed concern for her health based on interviews, Sumit, 38, said he saw one comment that suggested Jenny may have ALS. (Jenny’s dad had also died of ALS more than a decade ago.)

Doctors ultimately confirmed the diagnosis and said the progression “is slow.”

“I don’t want to be treated any differently,” Jenny told the publication in an interview published on Tuesday. “Let’s just live our life as we have been while we can.”

But from [the] last so many years, I feel like doing [things] for someone who you love gives you happiness, I think that’s what love is. And that’s why we do things for each other, and that’s what make each other happy.”

Jenny added, “And we’re happy that we’re together.”

90 Day: The Last Resort returns to TLC on Monday, June 1, at 8 p.m. ET.
