90 Day Fiancé alum Jenny Slatten’s ongoing battle with ALS has progressed.
“Jenny is getting weaker by the day, she is on two medications for ALS, which are edaravone and riluzole, both supposed to slow the process down,” Jenny’s friend Serma Minincleri wrote in a Wednesday, September 23, GoFundMe update, noting that the pills make the former reality TV star “very tired.”
Serma launched the campaign in July to raise funds for Jenny, 68, amid her ALS treatment. As of Wednesday, the TLC star has seen five neurologists and speech therapists to help treat her symptoms.
“[Jenny] is doing what is asked of her and she will also be starting acupuncture very soon, there are trials that have shown great response with acupuncture and other holistic services that can greatly improve mobility and feeling less tired,” Serma added in her update. “Jenny hardly speaks now as it hurts.”
Jenny announced in May that she had been diagnosed with ALS, a degenerative nervous system disease that often leads to worsening muscle weakness. Jenny’s husband, Sumit Singh, is now her primary caregiver.
“Sumit speaks more for her and is the main spokesperson for his wife,” Serma added of Sumit, 38. “[He] is Jenny’s main caregiver and doing a great job each day.”
Jenny and Sumit revealed last month that her symptoms were “progressing” just three months after her initial diagnosis.
“It’s starting showing more in her talking, like, it’s hard for her to talk now,” Sumit said in an August social media video. “Earlier she was doing good, [and now] it’s progressing, but we were thinking that we’d come to America … if we can get proper treatment. I always keep my hopes high, and I feel that America might have something better for Jenny and she can get at least a better support system.”
Jenny had relocated to Sumit’s native India upon their 2021 wedding and was hesitant to move back to the United States for further treatment, succinctly calling the South Asian country her “home.” (Sumit is currently struggling to obtain a visa to travel with Jenny.)
“We love each other, and obviously, I want Jenny to start getting treated and I want Jenny to start feeling better or at least [have] a support system that makes [her] at least feel like, not, struggle every day,” Sumit continued at the time. “If [our relationship and medical plans] are not enough for the embassy in order for me to get a visa, I don’t know whatever situation or condition I will ever be approved.”
